About us
- How it was born
- Mission
In 2018, faced with the growing demand for professionals with analytical skills and solid knowledge in resource optimization, Dr. Eduardo Suger and Dr. Jorge Samayoa founded an organization dedicated to the education, research, and application of Operations Research and related disciplines. Thus, the Operations Research Institute (IOI) was founded later that year.
The IIO began its activities in January 2019 with the opening of two master's programs: Master in Data Science Y Master's Degree in Business Intelligence and Analytics.
- The Master's in Data Science is aimed at professionals with intermediate or advanced knowledge in programming and mathematics, and is offered in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) through the edX platform.
- The Master's in Business Intelligence and Analytics was designed for professionals with no prior programming experience and basic mathematical knowledge.
Since its founding, the IIO has experienced sustained growth, maintaining high academic and teaching standards. It has also established strong partnerships with Guatemalan companies to strengthen the link between academia and industry, fostering real, applied solutions to the challenges of the business environment.
The Operations Research Institute is an entity dedicated to the professionalization of people, in the Operations Research area and related areas such as Data Science, Supply Chain Management and Business Analytics.

Investigation
Description
The IIO, in addition to sharing knowledge and contributing to society with professional experience, has as its objective the development of scientific research. IIO students will be able to take a series of courses developed to understand the process of scientific inquiry, the identification of a research topic, and the development of a literary review. Similarly, participation in different activities related to research is encouraged, such as scientific poster competitions, exchange / collaboration programs with important universities for their scientific development, and through the development of research projects. The teaching team also receives support from the IIO so that they can develop projects to create new knowledge in their own areas of interest.
Present
Currently the IIO has several research development projects developed by our own students. The objective is to generate new knowledge and be able to distribute it through participation in conferences, articles in scientific journals, seminars, etc.
