About us
- How it was born
- Mission
In 2018, given the growing need for professionals with analytical skills and solid knowledge in resource optimization, Dr. Eduardo Suger and Dr. Jorge Samayoa decided to create an entity specialized in education, research and application of Research in Operations and its related areas; at the end of that year, the Operations Research Institute (IIO) was created.
In January 2019, the IIO began operations offering two master's degrees: Master's in Data Science and Master's in Business Intelligence and Data Analysis. The Master's in Data Science is created for professionals with a medium / high level of programming and mathematics, and is done in agreement with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), via edX. On the other hand, the master's degree in Business Intelligence and Data Analysis is created for those professionals who have no previous programming experience and their level of mathematics is basic.
Since its creation, the IIO has had a sustainable growth, without jeopardizing the academic quality of its programs, as well as the professional quality of its teachers. Strong collaborations have been created with Guatemalan companies, in order to close the communication gap between academia and industry.
The Operations Research Institute is an entity dedicated to the professionalization of people, in the Operations Research area and related areas such as Data Science, Supply Chain Management and Business Analytics.

Investigation
Description
The IIO, in addition to sharing knowledge and contributing to society with professional experience, has as its objective the development of scientific research. IIO students will be able to take a series of courses developed to understand the process of scientific inquiry, the identification of a research topic, and the development of a literary review. Similarly, participation in different activities related to research is encouraged, such as scientific poster competitions, exchange / collaboration programs with important universities for their scientific development, and through the development of research projects. The teaching team also receives support from the IIO so that they can develop projects to create new knowledge in their own areas of interest.
Present
Currently the IIO has several research development projects developed by our own students. The objective is to generate new knowledge and be able to distribute it through participation in conferences, articles in scientific journals, seminars, etc.
