Embassy of the United States of America and U Galileo join forces in support of Fulbright scholarship candidates
Authorities from Galileo University, and representatives of the Embassy of the United States of America, meet with finalists for the Fulbright scholarship, to share experiences so that they can take advantage of all the opportunities that will be presented to them during their studies.
On May 28, Galileo University hosted the meeting between people from the cultural section of the Embassy of the United States of America, finalists of the Fulbright scholarship and university authorities.

It should be noted that the scholarship Fulbright it is one of the most prestigious in the world. It was created by the senator J. William Fulbright, in order to promote understanding between countries, via the exchange of students in the fields of education, culture and science. Variations of this scholarship have been created, for example, Fulbright-LASPAU, which is awarded to exceptional university professors who want to study a master's or doctorate in the United States of America.
On behalf of the Galileo University, the afitrionas of this meeting were the doctors, and former Fulbright-LASPAU Fellows, Jorge Samayoa and José Ramírez, director and deputy director of the Operations Research Institute, respectively.

"The idea of this meeting is to share experiences that people who study in the US with a Fulbright scholarship have had, with the people who were selected as candidates to receive this prestigious scholarship for this year.”Says Dr. Samayoa.

At least 4 people from Galileo University have been awarded a Fulbright-LASPAU scholarship:
• Dr. Marco A. To, Fulbright 2003-2004 - Earned a master's degree in Telecommunication Management from Oklahoma State University.
• Dr. Jorge Samayoa, Fulbright 2007-2009 - Earned a master's degree in Applied Mathematics from Texas A&M University and later a Ph.D. in Operations Reserach from Purdue University.
• Dr. Alberth Alvarado, Fulbright 2008-2010 - Earned a master's degree in Applied Mathematics and later a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign.
• Dr. José Ramirez, Fulbright 2010-2012 - He earned a Ph.D. in Operations Reserach at Texas A&M University and worked a one-year post-doctorate at the same university.
Among the people who have been awarded with a Fulbright scholarship, around the world, there are:
• 60 Nobel laureates - from 14 different countries.
• 86 Pulitzer Prizes.
• 72 MacArthur Foundation Fellows.
• 37 high-ranking officials in different countries.
"We hope that this meeting will help the scholarship recipients to make their experience more profitable and to be aware of the difficulties that arise, as well as the opportunities that must be taken advantage of.”Added Dr. Ramírez.
Finally, Dr. Samayoa commented that “Galileo University is willing to support the United States embassy in the processes where we can make a positive difference. ”.
